About the Journal

Aim and scope of the journal.
Aim:
The Journal of Peripheral Nerve Surgery (JPNS) aims to advance the clinical science and surgical techniques related to peripheral nerve disorders. Our mission is to provide a dedicated global platform for surgeons, researchers, and therapists to share innovations that improve functional outcomes and quality of life for patients with nerve injuries and diseases.
Scope:
JPNS publishes original research, clinical trials, systematic reviews, and technical notes across the entire spectrum of peripheral nerve management. We encourage submissions in the following areas:

1. Surgical Techniques & Innovation

  • Advances in nerve repair (primary repair, grafting, and conduits).
  • Nerve Transfers: Innovative donor-to-recipient strategies for upper and lower limb reanimation.
  • Microsurgical and super-microsurgical advancements.
  • Management of complex Brachial Plexus and lumbosacral plexus injuries.

2. Entrapment & Compressive Neuropathies

  • New diagnostic and surgical approaches to common and rare entrapment syndromes (e.g., Carpal Tunnel, Cubital Tunnel, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome).
  • Endoscopic vs. open decompression outcomes.

3. Nerve Tumors & Oncology

  • Surgical management of benign and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (PNSTs).
  • Multidisciplinary approaches to Neurofibromatosis Type 1 and 2.

4. Regenerative Medicine & Basic Science

  • Translational research on axonal regeneration and Schwann cell biology.
  • Bioengineering of neural scaffolds and the use of growth factors.
  • Neuromodulation and electrical stimulation to enhance nerve recovery.

5. Pain Management & Neuropathic Pain

  • Surgical interventions for chronic pain and painful neuromas (e.g., TMR - Targeted Muscle Reinnervation and RPNI - Regenerating Peripheral Nerve Interfaces).
  • Psychological and pharmacological integration in surgical recovery.

6. Diagnostics, Imaging & Rehabilitation

  • High-resolution ultrasound and MR Neurography in surgical planning.
  • Electrodiagnostic correlations with surgical findings.
  • Post-operative rehabilitation protocols and functional assessment tools.

Target Audience
The journal serves a global community of professionals, including:

  • Peripheral Nerve Surgeons (Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery).
  • Hand and Upper Extremity Surgeons.
  • Neurologists
  • Physical and Occupational Therapists specializing in neuro-rehabilitation.
  • Biomedical Engineers and Research Scientists.

Submission Types

Original Articles: Robust clinical or laboratory research.
Review Articles: Comprehensive updates on specific pathologies or techniques.
Technical Notes: Brief, "how-to" descriptions of novel surgical maneuvers.
Case Reports: Only those presenting exceptionally rare pathologies or transformative clinical lessons.
Editorials & Commentaries: Discussions on the ethical, social, and professional trends in nerve surgery.
